Alice Austen House

The Alice Austen House is a vibrant cultural center that celebrates the pioneering spirit of early American photographer Alice Austen. Located in a Victorian Gothic Cottage on the shore of Staten Island, near the iconic Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, the museum offers breathtaking views of Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan. In 2017, it was designated as a National site of LGBTQ+ History, highlighting its significance in LGBTQ+ culture.

Operated by the Friends of Alice Austen House Inc, a non-profit organization, the museum presents changing exhibitions of Austen's historic photographs and contemporary photography. It also provides education programs for students and a range of cultural programs for the public. The Alice Austen House is owned by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and is a member of the Historic House Trust.

    Amazing Views and Historic Landmarks: Situated in a nationally landmarked park, the Alice Austen House offers visitors the opportunity to explore the picturesque grounds and enjoy sweeping views of the New York Harbor. It is also recognized as a New York City and National Landmark, and a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation's group of Historic Artists' Homes and Studios.
